For exporters and manufacturers, Google is one of the most valuable sources of new buyers. Distributors and importers search for products, specifications and suppliers every day. This guide explains how to make sure they find you.
Start with keywords for each market
Buyers in different countries use different words for the same product. Start by listing your main products, then research how buyers in each target market search for them, including specifications, materials, and words like "manufacturer", "supplier", "wholesale" or "OEM". Map each keyword group to one page on your site.
Optimise product and category pages
- Titles: include the product name and main specification, not internal codes.
- Descriptions: explain uses, materials, sizes, finishes and certifications in plain language.
- Images: use descriptive file names and alt text.
- Structured data: add product and organisation schema so Google understands your pages.
Fix the technical basics
Many export websites have problems that hold back rankings: slow hosting, no HTTPS, broken links, duplicate pages or no sitemap. Fix these first and connect your site to Google Search Console to monitor indexing and performance.
Consider language versions
If you sell to Spanish, French or Arabic-speaking markets, pages in those languages can rank for searches English pages never will. Use proper language tags so Google shows the right version to the right country.
Publish helpful content
Guides that answer buyers' questions, such as how to choose a product or compare materials, attract searchers early in their research and link naturally to your product pages.
Measure and improve monthly
SEO is a steady process. Most sites see meaningful progress within three to six months when the basics are done right. Track rankings, clicks and enquiries, then improve the pages that are close to page one.
